HEA will use qualitative research methods to help deliver Community Insights to your athletic department, including identifying improvements in fan experience and identifying new ticket holders, donors, sponsors, and revenue streams. The scope of the participants being studied will be individuals, organizations and businesses in the counties within a 50-mile radius from campus and any additional regions/counties that the administration selects.
Surveys
HEA will create surveys to collect demographic data and ask topical questions for insights. In addition to the demographic and opinion questions, these surveys will ask participants to consider joining focus groups and interviews for further conversation.
Focus Groups + Interviews
HEA will moderate several focus groups and interviews (online and/or in-person) with individuals to discuss athletics and the fan/donor/student experience. The administration will help guide the questions through our initial meeting.
Population Study
HEA will provide a statistical study of human populations in the counties within a 50-mile radius from campus and any additional regions/counties that the administration selects. This will include year-over-year trends, workforce and earnings information, population age, school size and youth sports participation data, population changes year-over-year, and educational attainment of the regions.
Embedded Fan (add-on)
Ethnography, the study of people and their culture, is an under-appreciated research method. It can be incredibly valuable to an athletic department to better understand the fan perspective at college football and basketball games. To blend in with the crowd, several data points will be collected via cell phone with photos and a note-taking app. The full scope of the project will be decided in the initial meeting, but areas of attention will include: Traffic Flow (in and out); Parking and Tailgating; Security and Ticketing; Concession Quality/Speed; Restroom Cleanliness; Crowd Management; Marketing and In-Game Presentation; Website and App Reliability; and In-Game Fan Reactions.
