Travis Smith is a practitioner in intercollegiate athletics that has worked at Power 5, FCS and Division 2 universities in compliance and academics. In his current role, Smith is responsible for NCAA academic eligibility, including tracking and projecting NCAA metrics for APR and PTD at Indiana University.
A first generation college student, Smith is a graduate from IUPUI in Indianapolis, holds a masters degree from indiana university in athletic administration and is currently a higher education doctoral student at Indiana University.
Eventually, Smith wants to lead a division one athletic department that is critically aligned with the rest of the institution. Until then, Higher Ed Athletics, in addition to his actual day job with the Indiana Hoosiers, is Smith’s way of retaining knowledge shared with him through the podcast.
Smith is continually jotting down ideas of how to best lead an athletic department at a public urban research university or public regional institution after covid-19, using IUPUI and Indiana State University as his focus subjects.
